School Community Association (SCA)

At Saint Bridget School in Abington, Massachusetts, the SCA — School Community Association is the school’s community-wide organization designed to bring families, faculty, staff, school leadership, and the broader Saint Bridget community together in support of the school.

Unlike a traditional PTO that can sometimes revolve around officers and formal meetings, the SCA was designed around participation, committees, and shared ownership. Families can be involved at whatever level works for them—helping with one event, volunteering periodically, sharing an idea, serving on a committee, or taking on a larger coordinating role.

The SCA’s work centers on several areas:

  • Building community through family and school events.
  • Supporting students and teachers through enrichment and appreciation activities.
  • Encouraging family engagement and volunteerism throughout the school.
  • Fundraising for programs and experiences that directly benefit students.
  • Supporting Saint Bridget’s Catholic identity and mission and helping create a welcoming, faith-filled school community.

Importantly, the SCA is a support and community-building organization rather than a governing body. Matters involving school policy, personnel, curriculum, finances, and administration remain the responsibility of school leadership.

For the 2026–27 school year, one of the SCA’s biggest initiatives is the Knights Fun Run. The goal is to raise $35,000, with proceeds supporting bus transportation fees, grade-level enrichment programs, and community events. The fundraiser officially kicks off September 29, with the Fun Run on October 8, 2026. Families use MyBooster.com to create and share student fundraising pages, and every student participates in the event. The program also incorporates the Global Kitchen Club character-building curriculum.

The SCA essentially represents a shift from the idea of “a parent organization that does things for the school” toward “a school community that does things together.” That fits well with the SCA motto you established: Building Community • Supporting Our School • Growing Together.
